Free rides over soon on Pierce Transit buses. Fares had been waived amid COVID-19 crisis

Pierce Transit will reinstate fares for bus and shuttle routes starting June 14.

Fares will return to regular rates after months of being waived to protect drivers from the coronavirus, agency spokesperson Rebecca Japhet said.

Passengers are strongly encouraged to wear face masks.

Riders can begin entering through the front doors, where clear shields separate the operator from customers. Some seats are marked off to promote social distancing, and buses will continue to hold a limited number of passengers.

“Follow-behind buses are running on busy routes whenever possible to pick up extra passengers,” Japhet said in a news release.

Riders are asked to exit the bus through rear doors to keep passengers apart in an effort to minimize contact and slow the potential spread of COVID-19.

The Bus Shop at Tacoma Dome Station is open weekdays with limited hours, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Customers can reach Pierce Transit Customer Services by phone at 253-581-8000, on weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
