Man in his 20s badly hurt in head-on wreck in Puyallup
A driver in his 20s suffered life-threatening injuries after failing to stop for a red light and striking a vehicle head-on in Puyallup, police say.
His female passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The driver and lone occupant of the other vehicle also suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release from Puyallup police.
The crash occurred about 6 a.m on South Meridian at the state Route 512 exit.
Both directions of Meridian were closed for six hours while investigators from the Major Collision Response Team investigated the crash.
The roadway is now open.
The investigation revealed the causing vehicle was traveling south when it failed to stop for a red light and struck the other vehicle at a high rate of speed, police said.
Investigators believe the driver who allegedly caused the collision was impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, according to the news release.
The collision is being investigated by the Major Collision Response Team as a vehicular assault case.
