Name chosen for baby muskox at Point Defiance Zoo
The votes are in, and the public has chosen to name the baby muskox at Point Defiance Park & Zoo after “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, according to a July 9 news release from the zoo.
The zoo said the host’s favorite animal is the muskox, and voters chose to name the new muskox after him. Trebek received 43 percent of the vote, beating out the other name options: Mak, Ollie, and Capra. Over 5,000 people participated, according to the press release.
Trebek was born at Point Defiance Zoo on June 7 to Charlotte and Hudson. Now 4 weeks old, he’s exploring his Arctic Tundra habitat and practicing headbutting rocks, a behavior that’s common among male muskoxen, the news release says.
““We are thrilled with how much he is growing and interacting with his new environment,” said zoo curator Telena Welsh in the news release. “He is energetic and wonderful to observe.”
