Bicyclist killed in Tacoma road accident, police say

A bicyclist died in a crash after hitting a curb on the 1600 block of S. Mildred Street in Tacoma early Sunday, police say.

The man was identified as Christopher Brantley, 33, by the Pierce County Medical Examiner.

According to police, Brantley may have been distracted by his phone, which was playing a podcast. His bicycle struck a curb and he sustained a fatal head injury, police say. The Medical Examiner has not yet released a cause or manner of death.

Police say they received a call about the accident just after 4 a.m. Sunday. A passerby saw Brantley in the road and thought he may have been struck by a car, but police determined no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police say Brantley was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
