Two brothers who drowned in Spanaway Lake have been identified
Two brothers who drowned in Spanaway Lake Sunday have been identified.
Hamadi Musa, 14, and Ramadani Mberwa, 15, were spending the afternoon at the public swimming area with relatives.
About 3:40 p.m., Hamadi slipped off a flotation device and began struggling to stay afloat, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Ramadani tried to help his younger brother, but both teenagers were pulled beneath the surface of the water.
When neither one came back up, several people called 911.
A Pierce County sheriff’s dive team responded within minutes and pulled both boys out of the water.
One was found immediately. Divers spent a few minutes looking for the other boy, who was on the bottom of the lake.
Hamadi and Ramadani were taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, where they were pronounced dead.
“These brothers were as close as two brothers can be,” according to a GoFundMe page raising money to help the family bury the boys. “They would have done anything for one another.”
