Fire-ravaged state Route 410 will reopen to traffic Tuesday morning

The 2-mile section of state Route 410 between Sumner and Bonney Lake will reopen Tuesday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The road has been closed for the past week after the wind-driven Sumner Grade Fire swept up the hillside and jumped Route 410. It burned five homes in Bonney Lake.

Utility crews have been repairing power infrastructure, and WSDOT workers have been falling trees. Other workers have been cleaning drainage systems and the highway itself.

Peterson Brothers Construction replaced 120 burned guardrail posts.

“This level of fire damage is rarely seen in this area of the state,” said WSDOT assistant regional administrator for maintenance Troy Cowan.

WSDOT said it will monitor the roadway for debris or erosion.
