Tacoma school district shares latest timeline on when students may return to school
Students enrolled in remote learning at Tacoma Public Schools may start to return to school in-person at the end of the month, according to a new update Tuesday.
The district sent a message to families Tuesday evening sharing preliminary dates when students may return to school as part of hybrid plan in which students spend some days of the week learning from home and some days on campus.
Moving forward with the hybrid plans depends on if Pierce County continues to show COVID-19 case counts fewer than 75 cases per 100,000 people within a 14-day period, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and state Department of Health.
The district shared the following timeline:
- No sooner than Sept. 28: Students in kindergarten, first grade and second grade would return to in-person learning four days a week, with Wednesdays spent learning from home. Meanwhile, preschool students would return in cohorts on a reduced schedule. Specific preschool cohorts and schools will be communicated directly to parents by their schools and teachers.
- No sooner than Oct. 12: Students in grades three, four and five would return to in-person learning two days a week—either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday. They’d spend the other three days learning from home.
- No sooner than Nov. 2: Students in grades 6-12 would return to in-person learning two days a week—either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday. They’d spend the other three days learning from home
