The South Sound is in line for its first freeze of fall, which could produce frost and fog early this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 40s or upper 30s Monday night, and then will cool to the low 30s by Tuesday morning, said Samantha Borth, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

Residents might awake to frost and fog Tuesday morning, she said.

Although the region will get a taste of cold weather early in the week, it’s not expected to stick around, Borth said.

Another weather system arrives Tuesday night and Wednesday, bringing rain and warmer temperatures. Daytime highs are expected to rise into the mid-50s, with overnight lows falling into the 40s.

A chance of rain is in the forecast the remainder of the week and weekend, Borth said.
