Man killed in Graham after argument escalates to shooting, Pierce County deputies say

Update: The Sheriff’s Department announced on Facebook that the suspect taken into custody Sunday morning has been released while the investigation continues. Kapowsin Highway also has reopened.

A man is dead and another is in custody after an argument escalated into a shooting in Graham overnight Sunday, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

About 2:50 a.m., 911 callers reported a shooting in the 12600 block of Kapowsin Highway East.

Deputies arrived and found a 28-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound, with about 20 people gathered around him, the Sheriff’s Department said via social media.

Graham Fire & Rescue tried to save the man, but he died at the scene.

Witnesses said an argument between the 28-year-old man and a 39-year-old male suspect resulted in the shooting.

Deputies later found the suspect in a nearby house and took him into custody on suspicion of second-degree murder.

As of about 10 a.m. Sunday, Kapowsin Highway East was still closed in both directions near the 12600 block.

Drivers are asked to use alternate routes.
