A woman died Sunday evening in Spanaway after being hit by a car on southbound state Route 7, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The pedestrian was struck near the 160th Street South intersection. Washington State Patrol trooper Robert Reyer tweeted about the incident at about 8:15 p.m. State patrol, the Washington state Department of Transportation and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.

Reyer said the woman stepped into the road in front of the car, which was unable to stop. She was a 19-year-old woman from Spanaway.

The driver who struck her was a 19-year-old woman from Carbonado. Reyer said she had no way to stop in time to avoid striking the pedestrian. She was not arrested.

All southbound lanes were temporarily blocked Sunday night while officials investigated. The road reopened by about 10:25 p.m.
