House fire in Gig Harbor burns home, hospitalizes 1 person

A house fire in Gig Harbor on Monday morning significantly damaged a one-story home, leaving it unlivable. One occupant was transported to the hospital.

The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. at a house on 87th Street, Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One spokesperson Tina Curran said. She said when crews arrived, two women and one man had evacuated and the home was fully involved by the fire.

The man injured in the fire was taken to the hospital, but Curran said she did not know the extent of his injuries.

The fire spread quickly and crews began a defensive fire attack, Curran said. She said the fire was knocked down about 15 minutes after it was reported. Crews were continuing to extinguish hot spots by about 11:30 a.m.

The displaced residents are receiving assistance for short-term housing from Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor, Curran said. She said the Red Cross will be following up with the residents to provide further help.

The Pierce County fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
