Remember Friday’s storm? In the mountains, it means the start of ski season

Friday night’s wind and rainstorm may have left you in the dark, but in the mountains it meant “heaps of snow,” according to the Summit at Snoqualmie, which announced it will open a ski run this week.

“Thanks to over a foot of fresh (snow) that fell Friday night, we now have enough to start preparing the mountain for opening,” the ski destination website reads.

The Summit will open to pass-holders for the 2021-2022 winter season on Tuesday (Dec. 14) at Summit West, according to the site.

“The first two days of operations will be limited, and for Summit & Ikon pass-holders only,” the site reads.

About 15 inches of snow fell at Snoqualmie during Friday’s storm, followed by a couple of more inches of snow Sunday morning, National Weather Service forecaster Mike McFarland said.

With more snow set to fall this week, other areas and lifts will open as conditions allow.

“With more snow in the forecast for early this week and possibly more later in the week, Summit Central, Silver Fir, and Alpental might not be too far behind Summit West,” the site reads.

An announcement on the opening of the tubing park also could happen this week.
