Puyallup woman struck, killed by pickup truck on state Route 167

A 21-year-old Puyallup woman died Monday afternoon after she walked into traffic on state Route 167 and was struck by an oncoming vehicle, state troopers said.

Emergency crews were called about 3:27 p.m. to northbound state Route 167 at 20th Street Northwest in Puyallup for the collision, Washington State Patrol trooper Robert Reyer said. Crews from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and the Washington State Department of Transportation were also on the scene.

A 45-year-old driver in a black Dodge truck was going north in the right lane when the woman walked into traffic from the right shoulder and was struck by the vehicle, Reyer said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both northbound lanes of traffic were blocked for about three and a half hours while troopers investigated the collision. Reyer said the driver had no time to avoid hitting the pedestrian.
