The Puget Sound’s holiday weekend could include snow, but not much
Snow has reached Western Washington and meteorologists expect a bit of snow to reach the South Puget Sound in the coming days followed by a drop in temperatures.
Whatcom County is already reporting snow on Friday morning, and the National Weather Service predicts colder air will continue to move south from Canada, as will the rain snow line, according to a tweet.
The agency also cautions that Friday will be rainy and the Puget Sound coastline could see flooding along harbors and low-lying coastal roadways.
A rain/snow mix is expected to move into the Puget Sound on Saturday, bringing snow to areas near sea level. The precipitation may shift into Christmas snow by the afternoon and evening.
Those waiting to play in heaps of snow might be disappointed to know the agency said any snow accumulations will be less than an inch.
Tacoma is predicted to see small amounts of snow late Saturday into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
East Pierce County could see a bit more than that, with an inch of snow predicted in Buckley.
The National Weather Service estimates that if arctic air pushes further into the region, snow in lower-lying areas could reach between one to four inches of snow across the Puget Sound.
Next week, the colder air will continue, with temperatures dropping to the 20s and teens for much of Pierce County.
