This street, which runs under I-5 in Fife, will close for 3 weeks, starting Monday
A Fife street that runs under I-5 will close for three weeks, starting Monday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.
About 7 a.m., 20th Street Drive East in Fife will close while WSDOT crews remove and demolish sections of old northbound and southbound I-5 bridges.
The closure is expected to last until Jan. 23.
Although the street will close, commuters will still have access to I-5. A detour will direct traffic to 20th Street East, Port of Tacoma road and Pacific Highway East.
The closure is part of the larger work to replace the 1965 southbound I-5 Puyallup River Bridge.
The $325 million project also modifies the Port of Tacoma Road on-ramp to southbound I-5, demolishes the existing old I-5 bridges over the Puyallup River, demolishes and rebuilds the East L Street overpass that crosses I-5, and replaces existing concrete pavement from McKinley Avenue to Portland Avenue, according to the state.
