These three rural Pierce County intersections will soon become roundabouts, WSDOT says

Three intersections on state Routes 702 and 507 near McKenna and Joint Base Lewis-McChord will be replaced by roundabouts in 2024.

The state Department of Transportation is holding an online open house through Jan. 19 where residents and drivers can learn about the single-lane roundabouts.

The three intersections are:

SR 702 at 40th Avenue South.

SR 702 at Harts Lake Road South.

SR 507 at 208th Street.

The agency is also looking for public feedback on the designs and timeline.

Currently, the three intersections are regulated by stop signs.

WSDOT said it constantly looks for ways to improve safety on rural highways. It points to studies that show roundabouts reduce crashes while keeping traffic moving.

“Public feedback received during the online open house will help finalize the design of the roundabouts,” WSDOT said in a statement.
