Person found dead near Eatonville following trailer fire, deputies say
A man was found dead early Thursday morning after a fire burned a trailer on a rural road southeast of Eatonville, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.
South Pierce Fire and Rescue Crews were called just after 2 a.m. to the area of 4400 Grove Road East. Fire Chief Todd Wernet said a fifth-wheel trailer caught fire. He said it was fully involved by the fire when crews arrived.
Wernet said a narrow driveway flanked by trees made it difficult for crews to access the trailer. He said they hauled 300 feet of hose to it to extinguish the blaze.
After the fire was put out, a man believed to be the trailer’s owner was found dead. He has not yet been identified. Wernet said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Deputies went to the scene about 3:12 a.m., sheriff’s department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said. The Pierce County medical examiner and the fire marshal also went to the scene.
The fire marshal will lead the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.
