Thousands without power Thursday morning in Tacoma due to outage

A power outage in Tacoma reported Thursday morning affected about 2,500 customers, according to Tacoma Public Utilities.

The outage, reported at about 8:45 a.m., extended from about East 48th Street and East McKinley Avenue on the city’s Eastside to East 75th Street, according to TPU’s outage map.

Later in the morning, TPU’s outage map showed only scattered outages in the area with about 90 customers affected.

The cause of the outage is being investigated, and TPU estimated that power would be restored by 11 a.m.
