Man killed in Frederickson over weekend in single-car rollover crash

A 37-year-old man was killed Saturday night when his SUV tore through several trees and a fence alongside a Frederickson road, causing the vehicle to roll and eject the man.

The crash occurred at about 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of 176th Street East and 70th Avenue East. Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Darren Moss said the driver was traveling east on 176th at a high rate of speed.

As the driver approached 70th Avenue, Moss said the vehicle hit several trees, went through a fence, hit a light pole and then crossed 70th Avenue, where it struck another pole and came to a rest upside down. Moss said the vehicle also struck a crosswalk sign.

The driver died at the scene. He has not been identified.

Moss said he wasn’t sure how fast the driver was going or what caused the crash.
