Fire at Lakewood apartment complex burns multiple units

A fire at a three-story apartment complex in Lakewood on Tuesday morning damaged multiple units, displacing some residents from their homes.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue crews responded to the fire in the 4400 block of 106th Street Court Southwest about 2:15 a.m., spokesperson Jenny Weekes said.

The building was evacuated and no one was injured. Weekes said crews had the fire knocked down and under control by about 2:30 a.m.

The majority of the damage was contained to the back of the building. Weekes said three units had fire damage to their exteriors, and more might have been affected by smoke and water damage. Weekes wasn’t sure how bad the damage was inside the apartments.

The Red Cross was alerted to the fire, and volunteers were helping those in need of housing.

Lakewood police said the southbound lane of Lakeview Drive Southwest as well as the entry and exit to Hayden Street Southwest were blocked while crews responded.

Fire crews said the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
