Man killed Thursday in shooting with Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies in Parkland
A man was killed Thursday in Parkland following a shooting by a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy, but a sheriff’s department spokesman provided few additional details.
One deputy received minor injuries, but not from gunfire, according to a social media statement from the sheriff’s department posted shortly before midnight. Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss provided few details about the incident apart from saying a deputy fired his gun. He confirmed Friday that a deputy had shot the man who died.
According to the department’s late-night statement, the incident occurred at an auto parts shop on Pacific Avenue South and Military Road South. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. A subsequent dispatch call reported shots fired. The department’s statement said the man involved was transported to a local hospital and later died.
The investigation will be handled by the Pierce County Force Investigation Team. Any further information will be released by a team member rather than the Sheriff’s Department.
