Man killed in South Hill over weekend in single-vehicle crash

A 30-year-old man was killed Saturday when his pickup drifted off a South Hill road and struck a mailbox and a large boulder, causing the vehicle to roll.

The crash occurred about 6:55 p.m. near the junction of 152nd Street East and 92nd Avenue East. Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said someone called to report the vehicle was speeding minutes before the crash.

The truck came to a rest about 25 feet from where it struck the mailbox and boulder in front of 9220 152nd St. E. The front end and passenger compartment of the truck was significantly damaged, Moss said.

Crews from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue had to extricate the driver from the vehicle.

The 30-year-old man was declared dead at the scene. He was the only person in the truck, and his name has not been publicly released.
