Rolled-over semi truck on SR 507 near Spanaway spills 50 gallons of milk, blocks road
A rolled-over semi truck that blocked all of southbound state Route 507 between Roy and Spanaway on Tuesday afternoon spilled 50 gallons of milk onto the road, Washington State Patrol troopers said. The driver was not injured.
Trooper Robert Reyer confirmed that no tears had been shed over the milk.
The collision was reported about 10:05 a.m. south of East Gate Road. Reyer said the driver went off the road onto the right shoulder where his truck hit the guard rail, then he over-corrected and steered into the guard rail on the left side of the road, and the truck rolled onto its side.
The driver told troopers that he went off the road after hitting a rock. Reyer said troopers don’t have any evidence that the driver was distracted when the crash occurred.
Reyer said he expected the southbound lanes to be closed for some time while troopers and other first responders work to clean up the mess. He estimated it to be cleared by about 2:30 p.m.
The milk was running off the road and into a nearby creek. Reyer said the Department of Ecology was called to the scene because milk can be poisonous to fish.
