Tacoma offers grants to help offset costs of businesses’ broken-window repairs
Tacoma is making use of some of its American Rescue Plan Act money to help businesses who have seen their windows shattered amid a string of assorted crimes.
Applications will be taken online starting Monday from eligible small businesses (no more than 15 full-time employees) based in Tacoma seeking to recoup some of their expenses.
Grant recipients will be chosen by lottery and notified on April 6, according to the city.
Applications for the Window Replacement Grant application program will be accepted starting 8 a.m. March 7 through March 28.
To apply, go to makeittacoma.com. Questions about the program or requests to receive information in alternate formats can be sent to windowreplacement@cityoftacoma.org or call (253) 591-5208.
The city is using $300,000 from ARPA funding to establish the program, meant to offset costs incurred replacing broken windows. The project was initially proposed in February amid businesses calling for more security and aid for repairs.
The program was developed by the city’s Community and Economic Development Department. Jeff Robinson, department director, told council members in February that the average cost of a replacement is about $2,500 and estimated the funding covering about 120 replacements.
