University Place man struck, killed after exiting rideshare on I-5 in Federal Way
A University Place man died early Saturday morning after he exited a rideshare on the side of Interstate 5 in Federal Way and was struck by a passing vehicle, the Washington State Patrol said.
The incident began when the 41-year-old passenger got into a rideshare in the 2600 block of Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma, according to the WSP.
The rideshare eventually got onto I-5 and headed north toward Federal Way.
The WSP said the passenger began exhibiting odd behavior.
“The passenger was becoming unruly and started taking off his clothes,” the WSP said.
The driver pulled over on the right shoulder of northbound I-5 at state Route 18 just after 3 a.m.
The passenger got out of the rideshare and eventually stood in the far left lane. He then walked into the adjacent lane, according to the WSP.
A passing vehicle attempted to avoid the man but struck him and the rideshare vehicle.
The man was then struck by another vehicle. He died at the scene.
The road was blocked for over three hours.
