Car fire inside a Fife dealership, two residential fires keep crews busy overnight
A house fire, a fire at a three-story apartment building and a car fire inside a Fife dealership kept Tacoma Fire Department crews busy overnight as they worked to extinguish the blazes.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, and the cause of the fires is being investigated.
Fire crews were dispatched to the first incident around midnight Tuesday to a two-story house fire in the city’s Eastside neighborhood, Assistant Chief of EMS Mary Hallman said. According to tweets from the department, the house was fully involved when crews first arrived.
The only occupant of the home was its owner, who was able to evacuate. The fire was under control by about 12:30 a.m.
The second fire was reported in the 4900 block of Pacific Highway East at Infiniti of Tacoma at Fife. Crews were dispatched about 2 a.m. after a car inside the dealership caught fire.
It’s not clear what caused the fire, but Hallman said it didn’t appear to be suspicious. She said fire crews had to wait to get inside the building until someone with a key arrived.
A sprinkler system activated during the incident, which put out the flames. Fire crews then worked to ventilate and remove smoke from inside.
Fire crews were dispatched to the third fire around 4:25 a.m. to the 1000 block of South Whitman Street in the city’s Westside neighborhood. When crews arrived, the fire was found to be in a storage unit on the first floor attached to an apartment.
The fire spread up to the storage unit of an apartment on the second floor, but fire crews were able to get the flames under control before they spread into the apartment’s living areas.
