MultiCare restructures top job into two positions, names new president
Tacoma-based MultiCare Health System on Tuesday announced a change in its executive leadership, splitting off its top job into two positions.
The health system has promoted Florence Chang to serve as its new president. Chang has served as the system’s executive vice president and chief operating officer since 2012.
In her new role, she will oversee 11 hospitals, more than 200 clinics and statewide networks of behavior health services, urgent care centers and neighborhood emergency departments.
She has been tasked with improving and expanding clinical operations.
“Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the pace of change in health care was increasing,” Chang said in a statement. “The last two years have done little to slow that pace, even as they posed unique challenges that — while often difficult — have been a catalyst for us to look at nearly every aspect of how MultiCare operates.”
Chief Executive Officer Bill Robertson, who previously held both titles of president and CEO, will remain CEO.
“Florence is a dedicated, creative leader who cares deeply about delivering ever better care to the communities we serve,” said Robertson in a statement. “In her time with MultiCare, she has helped expand the services we offer to address the wide-ranging health needs in the Pacific Northwest. Her leadership is crucial to the bright future we are building for the organization.”
Before MultiCare, Chang worked at Dearborn Advisors as senior vice president and partner. Before that, she served for 20 years in various leadership roles with Kaiser Permanente in clinical operations and information technology.
Chang received her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from California State University and holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.
