Power outages reported for thousands in South Tacoma

Outages were reported for thousands of Tacoma Public Utilities customers on Monday morning, mostly in South Tacoma near the Tacoma Mall and other shopping centers.

The outages were reported about 5:55 a.m., and they affected about 5,100 customers, according to Tacoma Public Utilities’ outage map.

Tacoma Public Utilities said on Twitter it was aware of the outages and that crews were investigating what caused the power losses. It estimated that power would be restored between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

By 9:50 a.m., most of the outages had been restored. About 945 customers remained without power. Nearly all of the outages were restored by noon. A spokesperson from Tacoma Public Utilities did not immediately respond to an email asking for information about what caused the the power outages.
