Pierce County medical examiner identifies man killed in motorcycle crash in Summit area

A 38-year-old man killed last week when he crashed his motorcycle into a car turning into a driveway in the Summit area of Pierce County was identified Wednesday by the medical examiner.

Matthew Sita died April 8 of multiple blunt force injuries in the 9700 block of Canyon Road East, according to a news release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. The office said Sita’s city of residence was unknown.

The man’s death was ruled an accident.

The incident occurred about 11 p.m. while Sita was riding south on Canyon Road East, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said. The rider struck a car turning off the road.

The driver of that car was unhurt, but the motorcycle was totaled. Deputies initially reported that the motorcyclist was a 43-year-old man. Moss said the man was driving without headlights and that excessive speed was a factor in the collision.

Sita was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
