2-alarm fire destroys large commercial building in Fife

Fire destroyed a large commercial building in Fife early Saturday, the Tacoma Fire Department reported.

Firefighters responded to the 1200 block of 46th Avenue East to find flames showing from the roof of the building, according to a department tweet posted at 3:41 a.m.

Crews initiated a “defensive strategy” and poured water on the building, the department reported. An incident commander later upgraded the response to two alarms to bring in more resources.

Firefighters continued to put out hot spots Saturday morning. No one was injured, but the department declared the building a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
