Firefighters battle large barn fire Monday morning in Graham

Firefighters in Graham were called Monday morning to a large fire that destroyed a barn.

No injuries were reported.

Graham Fire & Rescue crews responded about 7:40 a.m. to 22900 block of Meridian Avenue, about a mile south of Graham-Kapowsin High School. The southbound lanes of Meridian Avenue were blocked at 224th Street East while crews worked.

No one was inside the barn, and Graham Fire & Rescue spokesperson Brianna Baker said she was not aware of any animals inside.

The first crews to arrive found the barn completely engulfed in flames, Baker said. Photos showed a large amount of smoke rising into the sky.

Baker said firefighters had the blaze under control about 8:30 a.m. They worked to extinguish hot spots throughout the morning. The flames threatened some smaller structures near the barn, but Baker said crews were able to keep the fire from spreading.

What caused the fire is not yet known. Baker said the Pierce County fire marshal would investigate the cause.
