Motorcyclist killed in collision with utility pole in Northeast Tacoma, police say

A 27-year-old man died Tuesday night after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a utility pole in Northeast Tacoma, according to police.

The collision occurred about 11:21 p.m. near the 4100 block of Marine View Drive. Tacoma Police Department said a 911 caller reported that a motorcyclist struck a pole and wasn’t breathing. Officers responded and attempted to save the man’s life, but he was declared dead on the scene by Tacoma Fire Department personnel.

Police spokesperson Wendy Haddow said the motorcyclist was northbound on Marine View Drive at a high rate of speed when he crossed over the road’s double yellow line into southbound lanes and collided with the pole.

It’s not clear what caused the man to crash. Police are investigating the collision. The road was closed until about 2:30 a.m.
