3-vehicle wreck on I-5 in Tacoma Saturday night includes WA state trooper
A 43-year-old Federal Way man, suspected of driving under the influence, triggered a three-vehicle wreck in Tacoma Saturday night that also included a Washington State Patrol trooper, the state agency announced.
The trooper, a 39-year-old Tacoma man, was not hurt, but was taken to Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma to get checked out, according to the State Patrol.
About 11:30 p.m. Saturday, the Federal Way man was headed north on I-5 in Tacoma near the Delin Street overpass. The State Patrol says the man crashed into a second northbound vehicle, which then hit the trooper’s vehicle. At the time, the trooper was parked on the left shoulder of the freeway, emergency lights flashing, according to the State Patrol.
After the wreck, the second vehicle, which contained five people, drove to a nearby gas station. All five Puyallup residents, ranging in age from 20 to 58, were not hurt.
The Federal Way man also was not injured.
The wreck partially closed northbound I-5 for more than three hours.
