Spanaway family of 7 displaced by overnight fire that damaged house

A fire broke out early Thursday morning in a Spanaway family’s house. According to Graham Fire & Rescue, firefighters put out the flames, but the blaze damaged the home and displaced the family living there.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after midnight to the home in the 24400 block of 34th Avenue Court East, according to a tweet from the department.

The people inside were alerted by smoke alarms, and they escaped without injury. A Red Cross team was notified to provide assistance and resources to the family, which includes three adults and four children.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. When crews arrived, the fire had spread from the porch to the attic space. Photos shared by the fire department showed much of the ceiling in the kitchen was destroyed.

One resident of the home did have to be rescued by firefighters. The fire department said the family’s dog was hiding under a bed when crews pulled the pet out.
