Playground by the Sound at Chambers Bay to reopen to public

The popular Playground by the Sound in University Place is set to reopen to the public Friday (July 3) after being closed for the U.S. Open golf championship.

The playground, part of the Pierce County-owned Chambers Creek Regional Park, closed May 26.

It is the latest area of the park to reopen after the end of the golf tournament.

Grandview Trail, East Slope Trail, the North Meadow restroom, Chambers Bay golf course, Chambers Bay Grill and the county’s Environmental Services Building all have reopened since the tournament ended June 21.

The county anticipates opening the recreational fields adjacent to the Environmental Services Building as well as the North Meadow parking area, Central Meadow parking area and restrooms, Bridge to the Beach and Soundview Trail next month.

The grassy areas of North Meadow and Central Meadow will remain closed until the lawns there fully recover, the county said Thursday.
