Trash and recycling pickup for Tacoma residents will be back on schedule beginning Jan. 3.

The City of Tacoma’s solid waste management is collecting all residential garbage and recycling a day late this week. Most residential food/yard waste pickup is also a day late.

The delay is due to the Dec. 23 ice storm that prevented residential garbage, recycling and food/yard waste from being picked up. Solid Waste Management only picked up garbage at essential service facilities, such as hospitals, warming shelters, the rescue mission and grocery stores, last Friday.

Residential garbage and recycling pickup will return to its normal schedule Tuesday.

Food/yard waste customers who were previously scheduled to have their pickup on Friday will have their waste collected on Monday, despite the New Year’s holiday observation.

Residents will be notified of schedule changes on the Recycle Coach app, on cityoftacoma.org/solidwaste or by calling 253-502-2100.

The city’s solid waste utility provides curbside services to more than 58,500 residential and commercial customers in Tacoma.
