Man found dead after fire at Lakewood apartment building, firefighters say
A man was found dead Wednesday in a fire that broke out at a Lakewood apartment complex. Fire officials said the blaze only burned in the unit where the victim was found.
Firefighters with West Pierce Fire & Rescue were dispatched at about 11:40 a.m. to the 12900 block of Lincoln Avenue Southwest, spokesperson Jenny Weekes said. The man who died has not been publicly identified, and a cause of death has not yet been determined. Weekes said the only information she had about the person was that he was an adult.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Weekes said investigators from Lakewood Police Department and West Pierce Fire & Rescue were called to the scene.
When fire crews arrived, smoke and flames were not very visible from the outside, Weekes said. She said firefighters entered the single-story apartment building to put out the fire, and it was quickly extinguished.
The victim was the only occupant of the apartment at the time of the fire, Weekes said.
Other units in the building were not damaged, Weekes said. According to Pierce County property records, the complex is made up of six apartment buildings, each with four units.
