Tired of extreme South Sound weather? Then this week should be to your liking
No snow, freezing rain, strong winds or an atmospheric river is coming to South Sound this week. In fact, it will be downright pleasant for those of us who enjoy typical Northwest weather.
That’s right: The Tacoma and Olympia areas can expect a light rain and mild temperatures this week, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.
Daytime highs will be around 50 degrees and overnight lows will be well above freezing, likely 38 or 39 degrees, said meteorologist Trent Davis on Sunday.
Light rain will fall most of the week, except for Tuesday, which is expected to be the driest day of the week, while Thursday is expected to be the wettest, he said.
The Tacoma area is expected to receive about two inches of rain this week, while Olympia will see between an inch and two inches of rain, Davis said.
The one notable difference for the Olympia area this week will be periods of patchy fog, he said.
Both the Tacoma and Olympia areas are trending below rainfall totals to start the year.
Since Jan. 1, the Tacoma area has received 0.43 inches of rain (1.53 inches of rain is typical to start the year), while the Olympia area has received 0.92 inches (two inches of rain is typical).
For the entire month of January, 5.8 inches of rain is normal for Tacoma while it’s 7.8 inches for the Olympia area.
Davis said the long range forecast for the region is for the mild weather to continue, although with slightly more precipitation.
