One person died in a Lakewood apartment fire overnight Monday. Here’s what we know

One person died in a Lakewood apartment fire Monday night, according to fire officials.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to reports of a fire at the Maple Court Apartments on 122nd Street Southwest in Lakewood at about 10 p.m., according to a Tweet from the department. Responding firefighters contained the blaze to one apartment unit.

A woman in her 30s living in the unit died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, according to the fire department. The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
