A 35-year-old Tacoma man is facing a charge of vehicular homicide after he drove the wrong way on the freeway early Sunday and crashed head-on into an Auburn driver, according to Washington State Patrol.

The 63-year-old man died at the scene of the crash. The Tacoma man is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

About 2:50 a.m. Sunday, the Tacoma man was headed north in the southbound lanes of state Route 167 at Talbot Street, which is near Renton. Troopers say he then crashed into the Auburn driver who was headed south in the same area.

After the collision, the road was blocked for four hours.
