A 33-year-old Puyallup man wound up in the hospital late Saturday night after troopers say he failed to stop for a red light and crashed into another driver.

He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, according to Washington State Patrol. The 44-year-old Puyallup woman in the other car was injured, but was not transported, the State Patrol memo reads.

About 11:15 p.m. Saturday, the man was headed north on state Route 161, approaching 187th Street, which is south of the Pierce County Airport. The woman was stopped in the center turn lane on SR161, then turned west onto 187th Street.

Troopers say that’s when the man failed to stop at the light and crashed into the woman’s car. After the collision, his vehicle then struck a pole in the area.

The road was blocked for three hours following the crash.
