Occupants flee burning Gig Harbor home Wednesday evening as firefighters attack

Gig Harbor Fire Department

The occupants of a Gig Harbor home fled a smoky fire Wednesday evening, May 10, after a kitchen fire was initially reported as being out, according to the Gig Harbor Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched to the home in the 3700 block of 26th Ave. Court with an advisory that an oil fire had been extinguished.

“But upon arrival, it was upgraded to a single alarm fire,” the fire department tweeted. Firefighters mounted an offensive attack.

The fire was reported at 4:41 p.m. Crews were still putting out hot spots at 7 p.m., according to fire department spokesperson Tina Curran.

“It got into the attic and was traveling along the front exterior,” Curran said.

Crews rescued a dog and a cat from the home filled with heavy smoke.
