A 20-year-old Buckley man was taken into custody for vehicular assault Saturday night after he crossed over the center line and drove head-on into another car between South Prairie and Buckley, hospitalizing a woman with serious injuries and blocking traffic for about three hours overnight, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. on state Route 162 at 128th Street East and blocked traffic in both directions, said trooper Robert Reyer. Traffic reopened about 12:10 a.m.

The Buckley man was driving a white 2002 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan when he hit a silver 2012 Mazda SUV, Reyer said.

A 46-year-old Graham woman, who was a passenger in the Mazda SUV, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the hit vehicle was a 47-year-old Puyallup man, Reyer said.

The 20-year-old man was believed to have been driving erratically prior to the collision, but there were no suspected signs of impairment, Reyer said. He was taken to the hospital following the crash, he said.
