Traffic slowed as brush fire closes right lane of eastbound SR 16 near Gig Harbor
Traffic was slowed Sunday afternoon on eastbound state Route 16 due to a brush fire in the area of Wollochet Drive Northwest, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The right lane of eastbound SR 16 is expected to be closed until midnight, said Trooper John Dattilo, which likely will cause long delays for those returning late Sunday to the Tacoma area.
Wollochet Drive is between Purdy and Gig Harbor. Trooper Dattilo said Sunday the fire was just east of Wollochet.
Troopers were dispatched to the area about 1:50 p.m.
Tacoma and Gig Harbor fire departments are on scene, he said.
