Here are the rules for fireworks in Pierce County, also some places to celebrate July 4

Fourth of July is just a week away, and maybe you are thinking of setting off fireworks to celebrate.

Times and days when it is legal to release fireworks in Pierce County varies by jurisdiction. Only specific fireworks are legal statewide; acceptable explosives can be found at www.wsp.wa.gov/fireworks.

Smoke bombs, aerial spinners, roman candles and more are legal in non-banned area of Washington. While, firecrackers, sky rockets or bottlerockets are only legal on Native American reservations.

Here are rules and regulations for all of Pierce County. Be aware that all fireworks are only legal on private property.

Tacoma

Fireworks are illegal in Tacoma at all times. Fines for violations can be up to $513. Instead of shooting off your own explosives, the Tacoma Summer Blast from noon to 10:30 p.m. at Ruston Way Waterfront and the Independence 5K at 8 a.m. starting at North Narrows Drive, are two ways to legally celebrate Independence Day in Tacoma.

North Pierce County

  • Fife: June 28, noon to 11 p.m.; June 29 to July 3, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.; July 4, 9 a.m. to midnight; July 5, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • Edgewood: July 4, 9 a.m. to midnight

  • Milton: July 4, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • Gig Harbor: Banned as of this year

East Pierce County

  • Puyallup: July 4, 9 a.m. - 11 p.m.

  • Bonney Lake: July 4, 9 a.m. to midnight

  • Buckley: July 4, 9 a.m. to midnight

  • Wilson

  • Greenwater: Banned

  • Sumner: July 4, noon to 12 midnight

In Puyallup, Red White & Kaboom celebrates with live music, food trucks, a beer garden and fireworks on July 3, 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Gold and Teal lots of the Washington State Fairgrounds. On July 4 from noon to 6 p.m., a car show, live music, food trucks and a beer garden at Pioneer Park.

West Pierce County

  • Lakewood: July 4, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • Steilacoom: Banned

  • Fircrest: Banned

  • University Place: July 4, 9 a.m. to midnight

  • DuPont: July 4, 6 p.m. to midnight

  • Ruston: Banned

Steilacoom is hosting A Grand Old Fourth of July Parade, beginning at 1 p.m. on Rainier and Lafayette streets. At 7 p.m. family street dance opens on Lafayette Street and a firework show at 10:30 p.m. caps off the festivities.

DuPont is celebrating all July 4, starting with a pancake breakfast at Clocktower Park at 8 a.m. and ending the night with fireworks at Patriot’s Landing at dusk.

South Pierce County

  • Orting : July 4, 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

  • Eatonville: July 3-4, noon to 11 p.m.

Unincorporated Pierce County

Legal fireworks are allowed on private property July 4, 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

Firework Safety

In 2021, 11,500 injuries from firework-related activities were reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

If you are going to set off your own fireworks, remember to follow these general safety rules, provided by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

  • Keep children away from fireworks

  • Check to see if fireworks are legal before buying

  • Keep water close, in case of fire

  • Light fireworks one at a time

  • Do not try to re-light fireworks

  • Stay sober while igniting fireworks
