A popular Vietnamese restaurant in Tacoma’s South End is temporarily closed after a fire broke out there Friday, June 16.

i5 Pho - The Noodle Soup House at 8611 S. Hosmer St. sustained extensive damage to the roof area, Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Joe Meinecke said.

The fire has been ruled an accident.

“It is like roofing material works, so somebody was doing hot works on the roof of the building, and it ignited the fire,” Meinecke said.

The fire was reported a little past 5 p.m. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 45 minutes. There were no injuries reported.

i5 pho uploaded a post to its Instagram on Saturday, June 17, to announce that it would be temporarily closed.

The Tacoma restaurant is popular for its version of Vietnamese chicken wings served with caramelized fish sauce.

i5 Pho came under new ownership last November after the original owners sold it to “move on to the next thing,” according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

The time line for the reopening of i5 Pho is unknown.
