A section of the Foothills Trail near Orting will be closed for repairs starting mid-July.

About half a mile of the trail along the Carbon River will be closed daily July 12 through July 29 while crews work to repair two sections of the levee that have eroded.

The trail will be closed from about a quarter mile southeast of Charter Park in Orting and about three-quarters of a mile southwest of the 182nd Street East and Highway 162 intersection.

Crews will remove asphalt and repair one section of the levee that stretches 360 feet and another section that stretches 260 feet. The asphalt will be rebuilt after the levee repairs are complete, according to a Pierce County News release.

More improvement projects along the 21-mile-long trail that runs from the city of Puyallup to White River in Buckley are expected to begin this summer and will close more sections of the trail as well as trailhead amenities, according to the Pierce County website.

Future projects include a trailhead expansion project to increase the number of parking stalls located at the East Puyallup Trailhead and provide Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations.
