Woman, 60, hit by stray bullet during church parking lot shootout in Puyallup, police say
Puyallup Police say there have been no arrests and no one has been identified in connection to a church parking lot shootout that injured at least one person Saturday evening.
Police continue to investigate and review video, but they need help, Capt. Jason Visnaw said. Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous tip line at 253-770-3343.
There might be outstanding victims, more vehicles hit by bullets or those who drove away from the scene, he said.
“We’re still trying to piece things together,” Visnaw said.
About 6:50 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to a home in the area of the 600 block of Ninth Avenue Southwest. That’s where a woman, 60, who was visiting a friend, was a hit in the leg by a stray bullet.
The woman thought she heard the sound of fireworks, then peeked into the breezeway between a detached garage and the house and was hit by the bullet, Visnaw said. She was taken to an area hospital with an injury that was not considered life-threatening.
From there, police learned about the larger incident at the church parking lot across the street, he said. Police found 13 cars that were hit by bullets or had windows shattered by gunfire. Police also recovered multiple fire cartridges belonging to guns of multiple calibers, he said.
The parking lot was being used for an event at the Washington State Fairgrounds, Visnaw said.
