A red flag warning is in effect. Here’s what you can do to avoid starting a fire

Local weather forecasters from Washington and Oregon have issued a red flag warning for the fourth of July.

A red flag warning means warm temperatures, low humidity and strong, gusty winds are happening or are about to happen. It’s in effect until 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service advises residents to avoid burning things and to be careful around open flames. They should also safely dispose of cigarettes as fires can ignite and spread quickly.

A red flag warning is different from a fire weather watch, which is when warm temperatures, low humidity and strong, gusty winds could happen.
