No, your neighbor lighting off fireworks isn’t an emergency. Here’s when to dial 911

Before you call 911 on Independence Day, you may want to double-check if it’s for the right reasons.

Police agencies in Pierce County took to social media Tuesday to explain when residents should and shouldn’t dial the three-digit number.

The Milton Police Department posted on Twitter that residents should call if someone’s house is on fire. They shouldn’t call if firework debris is landing in their yard.

The Puyallup Police Department also posted on Twitter that residents shouldn’t call if a neighbor is lighting off fireworks. They should call if a neighbor is making illegal fireworks in their garage.

South Sound 911 has a fireworks complaint reporting system online at www2.southsound911.org/onlinereporting/FireworksTerms.aspx. People can also call the agency at 253-287-4455.
